Series Workshop Description:
The Quality Matters (QM) Teaching Online Certificate enables instructors to demonstrate their knowledge mastery of online teaching. This is a series of (7) asynchronous workshops, taught by a Quality Matters facilitator, supported with PLC face to face sessions, facilitated by the CSIU’s Department of Online Learning QM Coordinator. The seven workshops that make up the Teaching Online Certificate include competencies aligned with QM’s Online Instructor Skills. Instructors who take the series are provided with the background knowledge needed for teaching online. The workshops will provide both current and potential online instructors with the experience of learning online from the student's perspective. A total of 8 hours for the CSIU facilitated onsite collaborative PLC sessions is required as part of the cohort experience. Instructors will recieve a QM digital microcredential for each workshop in the series. Workshop sessions are listed below with workshop dates. This is not a work-at-your-own pace series, assignment deadlines apply for each workshop in the series. Each participant is required to purchase an accompanying texbook utilized in the workshops prior to the start of the series and PLC sessions. QM will award all workshop Act 48 credit for the microcredential series, and the CSIU will award Act 48 credit for the PLC sessions. Time spent will vary based on the experience of the educator with taking online courses for professional development. 

Educators will examine and apply online teaching skills in 7 areas through the following asynchronous workshop series:

  • Exploring Your Institutional Policies (11/3 - 11/17)
  • Gauging Your Technology Skills (12/1 - 12/8)
  • Orienting  Your Online Learners (1/5 - 1/12)
  • Connecting Learning Theories to Your Teaching Strategies (2/2 - 2/16)
  • Creating Presence in Your Online Course (3/9 - 3/23)
  • Assessing  Your Learners (5/11 - 5/18)
  • Evaluating Your Online Course Design  (6/8 - 6/22)

PLC - on site sessions: 1/19 (1-3 p.m.), 3/9 (1-3 p.m.) , 5/24 (1-3 p.m.) & 6/23 9-11 a.m. 

Cost: $1,089. Registration is non-refundable. Additional purchase of the required text book is the responsibility of the participant. Orders should be placed to allow time for arrival prior to the start of the series.

Act 48: Quality Matters will provide the act 48 credit for all asynchronous workshop sessions. The CSIU will provide the act 48 credit for all PLC sessions. PLC’s are required, participants must attend all sessions. No partial credit will be awarded.  

Registration: A minimum of 10 participants is required for the cohort to run. Series registrations are non-refundable.
