The information for Session #6 in PSAYDN’s 2025–26 OST Education & Awareness Campaign series is below:
Title: Civic Engagement in OST
Description: This interactive virtual session is designed to inspire out-of-school-time practitioners to intentionally integrate civic engagement into their afterschool and summer programs. Participants will explore why civic engagement is a critical component of positive youth development and how it benefits young people while strengthening their communities. The session will include a guided review of practical tools and resources available on the Alliance’s website, providing concrete strategies that practitioners can immediately apply in their own programs. By the end of the session, participants will be equipped with actionable ideas and resources to design meaningful, youth-centered civic engagement experiences that elevate youth voice and leadership.
Presenter Bio: Leah Silverberg joined the Afterschool Alliance team in 2017 and assumed the role of Senior Manager for the CYESS initiative in 2023. In this capacity, they lead initiatives focused on amplifying youth voices across the Afterschool Alliance while providing dedicated support for CYESS. Leah has worked to develop the Afterschool Alliance Youth Ambassador Program and the Million Girls Moonshot Flight Crew and supports the CYESS Community of Practice. Leah holds a B.A. in Biology and Studio Art from Bard College.
