Mental Health First Aid is an 8-hour course that gives people the skills to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. The evidence behind the program demonstrates that it does build mental health literacy, helping the public identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness. Mental Health First Aid training helps a person assist someone experiencing a mental health crisis such as contemplating suicide. In both situations, the goal is to help support an individual until appropriate professional help arrives. Trainees are taught how to apply the 5-step action plan in a variety of situations such as helping someone through a panic attack, engaging with someone who may be suicidal, or assisting an individual who has overdosed. An important component of the Mental Health First Aid course is the opportunity to practice the intervention strategy rather than to just learn about it. This simple experience can make it easier to actually apply the knowledge in a real-life situation.
DETAILS:
- Location: CSIU Conference & Learning Center - Susquehanna A&B
- Registration opens at:: 7:30 am
- Workshop: 8 am to 5 pm
- Cost: $25.00
- Lunch: will be provided
- Target Audience: Teams of 5-6 staff which include: social workers, guidance counselors, behavior intervention staff, SAP staff, lead teachers, principals, SRO's, school psychologist
- Registration Deadline: Thursday, January 21,, 2021 by 3:00 pm
- Act 48 hours: 8 (must attend entire event to earn Act 48 hours. No partial hours will be given. The CSIU will upload Act 48 hours for this event to the PDE PERMS system). Anyone requesting Act 48 hours must provide the correct PPID# and provide proof of attendance (sign-in and sign-out roster provided at the event).
INCLEMENT WEATHER: --- In the event of inclement weather this workshop will be reschedule for February 18, 2021 (time, location and details will remain the same) and all registrants will be notified by email 24-48 hours before the event. You may also refer to the CSIU website (www.csiu.org), CSIU Facebook page (CSIU/Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit/IU16) or for an automated announcement, please after 6:30 am to 570-523-1155, Option 9.
PAYMENT METHODS: --- Credit Card: If you choose this payment option, please be advised that if you are a district and having several staff attending, our system does not allow for group registrations at this time. For credit card refunds, please allow three-four weeks for processing. --- P.O. (Purchase Order) If you choose this payment option, we will not bill your district or organization until after the event. If you do not have a P.O. number when registering, please feel free to place your district or organization name in the space provided.
CANCELLATION POLICY: If you are unable to attend this event, please confirm by email to: [email protected] by January 28, 2021 to receive a full refund. Refunds will be issued in the same form payment was made. Please allow three-four weeks for processing.
