DESCRIPTION: In partnership with IU 16, Newsela will host a FREE workshop available to all educators in IU16 to become a Newsela Certified Educator. The Newsela Certified Educator Program will guide teachers through a series of virtual workshops and self-paced asynchronous work to learn how best to use the platform to make reading personalized, engaging and powerful for all students. Educators will be connected to new ideas, other educators, and impactful strategies to elevate reading in their respective content areas.
Teachers will:
- Learn how to integrate Pa CC standards with NewsELA texts and resources in classroom lessons
- Apply this learning in several lessons within a four week span
- Reflect with ELA Instructional Coach and NewsELA consultant on outcomes
- Know all things Newsela: from the building blocks to more advanced classroom applications
- Star Power: Get your resources featured on Newsela
- Never Stop Learning: Access Newsela scholarship opportunities, exclusive to Newsela Certified Educators
- Upon Completion: Get Free access to Newsela premium features for 3 months to utilize in your classrooms
DETAILS:
- Location: Online Zoom event (IMPORTANT: You MUST be registered in the CSIU Registration system to receive the Zoom information provided by email prior to event. This link will be unique and is utilized for Act48 reporting (see Act48 below). You MUST use the same email you registered with when attending the Zoom event.
- Time: 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm
- Cost: Complimentary
- Target Audience: Open to all educators with utilizing the free or paid version of Newsela
- Registration Deadline: Wednesday, November 11, 2020 by 12:00 pm.
- Act 48 hours: 5 (must attend entire event to earn Act 48 hours. No partial hours will be given. The CSIU will upload Act 48 hours to the PDE PERMS system). Only registered users will receive Act48 hours. Anyone requesting Act 48 hours must provide the correct PPID# and provide proof of attendance (at face-to-face events you must sign-in and sign-out and a Zoom event you must remain in the training the entire length of time).
- Evaluation: a link will be provided by the presenter. Anyone wishing to receive Act48 hours MUST complete an evaluation. The evaluation must be completed by end of day.
