Understanding Trauma and Fostering Resilience When Working with Afghan Refugee Students and Their Families
A Three-Part Series
This series is presented by Child Trends, a nonprofit, nonpartisan, research center based in Bethesda, Maryland, that conducts research on children, children's families, child well-being, and factors affecting children's lives. Each session in the series is designed to serve educators, school administrators, counselors, social workers, and other professional service providers that work with refugee students and their families. Participants may attend a stand-alone session, or they may attend multiple sessions. Attendees can receive 1 hour of Act 48 credits for each session attended.

- Description: Review key components of trauma-sensitive schools and discuss strategies for applying each of these components. Explore resources you can use to foster conversations with your peers and leaders within schools in your communities. Schools that embrace trauma-sensitive strategies and resources are more equipped to become environments where refugee students and their families feel safe and supported.
To encourage discussion and partnerships, this session will include opportunities to engage in break-out discussions to foster peer learning.
