DESCRIPTION
Participants will experience strategies used to think deeply about various genres of literature that guide students to make connections to the SEL components: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, and Responsible Decision-Making. They will learn questioning techniques and analytical skills to help students reflect deeply between the text and real-life decisions. Participants are asked to bring texts already used or ones that are available in their classrooms to this session.
Participants will
- Learn how to select texts that have the most impact on the SEL components: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, and Responsible Decision-Making.
- Develop questions and conversations that lead to thoughtful and introspective examining of the SEL components.
- Learn to teach analysis skills for students to examine parts in a text that support a life truth to apply. Participants will learn how to guide students in making the connections between the text and their life choices.
