Event Information
As the global population of forcibly displaced persons continues to rise, U.S. schools are seeing a continued increase in the number of multilingual newcomers who enter school between grades 4-12 with limited or interrupted formal education. Of critical concern to educators is how to best understand the sociocultural factors that impact these students’ educational trajectories, provide equitable instruction, and design and communicate pathways to and beyond graduation or age 21.
In this workshop session, participants will learn more about:
- Key differences among refugees, asylees, and undocumented newcomers
- Program designs
- Instructional equity
- Graduation and support beyond it
Act 48 available to PA educators and certificates of completion for non-PA educators
