DESCRIPTION:
The CSIU Summer STEM BootCamp is an opportunity to engage with other educators who are curious about ways to incorporate STEM practices into their classrooms. This BootCamp is designed to provide educators with tools to incorporate Science, Technology, Engineering and Math into their courses whether they are working with elementary, middle or high school students. STEM is a way of "thinking and doing" and can be incorporated into ANY classroom! Come work with other educators as we learn about the new PA Science Standards (in review), computational thinking practices, engineering design process and using data to make decision. Wrapped into the course is UDL (Universal Design for Learning) to help you make decisions on ways to make STEM accessible to every student.
PARTICIPANTS WILL: Edcuators who attend all sessions will be able to:
- SCIENCE: provide examples of Ambitious Science Teaching Practices and the nature of science (NOS), create a StartSOLE for their classroom, review the new suggested PA State Science Standards, consider how they might incorportate environmental education into their classroom.
- TECH: Employ computational thinking practices, review computer resources (CS Pathways, Code.org), explore resources in CSIU leading library.
- ENGINEERING: employ engineering design process, engage in Engineering by Design workshop and use the materials to create a classroom lesson plan.
- MATH: Use data to help students understand global problems and create local solutions.

- Location: Combination of Face-to-Face and Virtual - see specific detail listed below. (IMPORTANT: You MUST be registered in the CSIU Registration system to receive the Zoom information for the virtual portion(s) of this event. PLEASE use the same email you registered with when attending the Zoom event.)

- June 16, 2021 - 9 am to 3 pm - Location: CSIU Conference & Learning Center, Susquehanna B
- June 17, 2021 - 9 am to 11 am - Location: Zoom Virtual (you will receive the event link via email)
- Cost: Complimentary
- Target Audience: K-12 educators
- Act 48 hours: 15.0 hours will be awareded by the CSIU. PDE requires 100% attendance to earn Act48 hours. No partial hours will be provided.
- Evaluation: How did we do? The presenter will provide a evaluation link at the end of the session. In order to complete the evaluation, you MUST be logged into your CSIU Registration System account. Please complete the evaluation within 48 hours.
