This course will introduce you to Saltillo Corporation and its communication solutions (i.e., NOVA Chat, Chat Fusion, Touch Chat Express, and the TouchChat App). Participants will review and explore vocabulary files that are available on the NOVA chat devices and TouchChat application. Participants will explore the characteristics, roles, and responsibilities of communication partners working with people who use AAC, with a focus on aided language input. Teaching literacy is one of the most empowering things we can do for people who use AAC, and it starts with fostering emergent literacy skills. This course will also focus on building emergent literacy skills by 1) providing access to an AAC system with core language, 2) engaging in shared reading, 3) making reading materials accessible, and 4) engaging in early writing activities. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities to further their learning. Participants will: • Participants will be introduced to Saltillo Corporation and its communication solutions by customizing and using of the AAC devices. • Participants explore vocabulary files that are available on the NOVA chat devices and TouchChat application identifying one unique characteristic of each. • Participants will describe the characteristics, roles, and responsibilities of communication partners working with people who use AAC, with a focus on aided language input. • Participants will build emergent literacy skills by 1) providing access to an AAC system with core language, 2) engaging in shared reading, 3) making reading materials accessible, and 4) engaging in early writing activities.
