DESCRIPTION: Welcome to the world of Piper - a unique learning experience for students and teachers to engage in engineering and physical computing. You will use visuals on an engineering blueprint to construct a computer. As you build, you'll learn how to use tools and basic mechanisms. Once finished, you and team members will dive into the custom-created Raspberry Pi Edition of Minecraft to learn about circuits and electronics on a highly engaging platform called Story Mode. Following the experience, students will know and be able to: **Interpret an engineering blueprint with exploded diagrams **Build a fully functional computer **Connect circuits and electronics by solving challenges to create physical devices using simulation in Piper's customers-created Raspberry Pi Edition of Minecraft **Complete projects and learn coding principles in block-based language **Learn to transition from block-based (Google for Education's Blockly) to text-based programming (Python) and **Explore computational thinking practices by completing prompts, creating code, or debugging and remixing DETAILS: --- Location: CSIU Conference & Learning Center - Susquehanna A&B ---Cost: Complimentary to Attend. If you attend and want to leave with your own Piper Computer kit for your classroom the cost will be $200 ---Target Audience: Teachers in Grades 3-8 ---Lunch is on your own. ---Act 48 hours: 6.0 hours (must attend the entire event, no partial hours will be given). CSIU will upload participant hours to PDE PERMS system.
